One Stop Guide To Perth
i

Perth is just starting to come down from a 10 year fever pitch mining boom. You might find food and drink still a bit pricy but you can find a bargain if you try. First up head to Kings Park for a spectacular view of the city and Swan River. Next jump on a train to Fremantle which is a charming little port town with loads of character, fishing boats, beach and vibrant coffee strip. In the warmer months Cottesloe Beach (3 blocks walk from the Cottesloe Train Station) is an absolute must. The locals flock to their pubs for the lively Sunday Session between 4pm – 9pm on Sundays and the Session at Cottesloe Beach Hotel (The Cott) is legendary.

Transport
If you are flying into Perth catch the City Shuttle Connect from the airport to the city or to Fremantle. To find your way around download the app TransitTimes+. Buy a travel card called a Smart Rider or get a day pass (Day Rider) or pay cash fares to get around. The Central city coloured CAT buses are free. There’s a journey planner at transperth.wa.gov.au/Journey-Planner which makes getting around easy.

City
For a cheap meal in the city check out the pay-by-donation Indian restaurant Annalakshmi down on the Swan river at Jetty 4, Barrack Square. If you are up for a drink Cargenie’s The Conservatory is a great roof top cocktail bar with a barbecue menu and great views.(enter off Prince Lane) They have Happy Hour between 5-6 when drinks are $6. On Wednesdays all meals and drinks are 50% off. Still pretty reasonable is Tiger Lils on Murray St is a casual pub with excellent contemporary Asian food. Yum. If you’re after a cool place for coffee try Uncle Joes on King Street (also good for a hair cut if you’re a guy), Tiger Tiger and The Secret Garden if you’re after lunch.

Northbridge
If you love a good cheap curry try the Hare Krishna Govinda’s Restaurant on William St, open Mon – Fri 11.30 – 7.30pm and Sat 11.30am -2.30pm.  They have a $10 all you can eat buffet and $8 if you have a concession card. Across the road is Hole in the Wall sushi – probably the cheapest sushi you’ll get in Perth. The Bird on William Street is good for live music – open noon till late. Rosie O’Gradys Irish Pub have special $10 & $15 deals Tuesdays. Wednesday nights The Brass Monkey have Backpacker Night with discount drinks in The Lounge bar from 7pm. A bit further north you’ll find The Rosemount in North Perth which is very popular for live music. Check it out at Happy Hour on Friday when the amazing burgers are on special for $12. In the summer the Cultural Center is where it at with the Fringe Festival, late night pop up outdoor bars, pop up live music and other performing acts, cheap rush tickets to international shows and PICA bar.

Leederville + Mount Lawley – The Urban Go-to’s
Wednesday’s at the Leederville Hotel is a good scene with half price pizzas in The Garden on Monday and Tuesday.  Zambreros is good for fresh cheap burritos. Mr Munchies Japanese in Mt Lawley, The Flying Scotsman legendary pizza+pint and Happy Hour.

Fremantle
There’s a food court in Fremantle right next to the Markets and the Sail and Anchor pub called Old Shanghai (known amongst younger locals as Uppies).  It’s open Wed-Sun 10.00am – 9.00pm and it’s great for good cheap food. Cafe 55 and Breaks are also good food options. If you have some cash head to Little Creatures on Fishing Boat Harbour for boutique beer, good food and a lively vibe. Norfolk and Clancys are fun pubs. If you are after some live music and meeting friendly locals we recommend Mojos which is about 200m from North Fremantle railway station.

Rottnest
If the weather is good it’s definitely worth a day trip to Rotto. $75 will get you a ferry there and back and bike hire for the day. It’s great for bike riding, lovely beaches, snorkelling and chilling out. Remember sunscreen and a hat or you’ll fry.

The Pinnacles
If you are ready to get out of town the day trip to the Pinnacles is a bit of an adventure. You’ll see crazy Aussie outback, native animals and get into some sand boarding on the way back.

Party
The music.com have a great guide to what’s on each night in Perth. If you see one, grab it.
