Get up for an early start at 7am departing Broome heading east towards the Kimberley Gorges. Our guide will share stories of local history, environment and people as we travel through the remote beautiful landscape of Western Australia. Enjoy a morning tea break at the Willdare Roadhouse located on the mighty Fitzroy river and visit the "Prison Tree" also known as the Boab tree and let the guide fill you in about this significant historical site.
This tree measuring overs 15 metres in girth is believed to be over 1500 years old and is the relic of some cultural sensitivity for local aboriginals due to its use as a prison during the Kimberley Pioneers Era. Before too long we continue our journey on the Gibb River Road towards the Napier Range. These mountains are around 350 millions years old, home to an array of animals and plants it is the perfect place to experience the geological wonder that is Windjana Gorge. The gorge's walls tower about 90m over your head and your guide will help you spot out of few fresh water crocodiles, local bridle and some indigenous bush tucker.
Once we finish exploring Windjana Gorge we have a picnic lunch, then its onto Tunnel Creek, a 750m cave system carvers through the Napier Range.
Here we learn the legend of Aboriginal Freedom Fighter Jandamurra who used the tunnel to hide out in the late 1800's.
