Exploring Bruny Island
An untouched island full of rare wildlife, amazing gourmet food, and unique land formation comes together at Bruny Island!
Tasmania’s untouched gem, Bruny Island is positioned just off the southeastern coast of Tasmania. It’s a place rugged natural beauty, rich wildlife and gourmet goodness come together. Just 20 minutes away from Kettering on the ferry (the ferry port is only 35 minutes away from Hobart), Bruny Island offers an amazingly quiet escape for foodies, nature lovers and adventurers.
An island of two land masses
Famous for it’s unique sand strip which links two land masses together, Bruny Island is actually two large patches of land which are joined together by this one strip of land.
This provides a picturesque view, and it’s what the island owes it’s views to. Climb up Truganini Lookout to see the most panoramic view which expands across both of the sandy stretches. If you go at dusk, you might even see the little penguins waddling out of the ocean and into their burrows!
Exploring the nature of Bruny Island
For rugged natural beauty and breathtaking views, and ancient forests, walk around the South Bruny National Park. Check out the Fluted Cape Walk for sea cliff views and a small glimpse of sea eagles. If you’re after something more relaxed, stroll along Cloudy Bay or Adventure Bay. You might even spot whales during migration season.
Keep your eyes peeled for the rare white wallaby!
Exploring the food on Bruny Island
Not only is Bruny Island a paradise for nature, it’s home to some incredible food spots too! Cheese, oysters, chocolate and wine to name a few! Check out the Bruny Island Cheese co, which is well known for it’s artisan raw milk cheeses. Hop over next door to their Beer Co, to sample some small batch brews made locally.
If you’re a fan of seafood, get yourself over to Get Shucked – a small oyster bar which is normally bustling! Eat raw or grilled oysters in a signature oyster shooter. Sample the local gin for a perfect pairing!
