Adelaide has so many beautiful beaches that are close to the city centre. Some of the most popular beaches are a short drive away or even a few tram stops away from the city.

You can’t go wrong with any of the Adelaide beaches as they provide the perfect spot on a hot summer day.

1. Glenelg Beach

Glenelg Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Adelaide and also the easiest to get to via the city! You can reach the beach via car, tram or bus which can take around 20 to 40 minutes.
You can go for a swim in the ocean or simply lie out your towel and relax on the beach. There is also the Glenelg Jetty to walk down for some good photos of the sunset.

There is a range of cafes, restaurants, and small boutiques that are close to the beach on Jetty Road. Or you can even stay at a hotel that has views overlooking the ocean and beach. You can also spend a few hours with the family at The Beachouse amusement park.

2. Brighton Beach

About half an hour’s drive from the city is Brighton Beach or you can get a tram, bus, or train. Brighton Beach has the Brighton Jetty Classic Sculptures and the Brighton Jetty to walk down. You can go swimming at the beach, and it is usually quieter compared to Glenelg Beach.

Close by Brighton Beach has a Jetty Road that is lined with cafes and restaurants for you to get a bite to eat or a coffee. You could also grab some fish and chips and enjoy it on the beach at sunset. There are a couple of restaurants along the Esplanade that provide a perfect ocean view over the beach.

3. Henley Beach

Henley Beach has some of the best seafood restaurants in Adelaide! You can have a great dinner with scenic views across Henley Beach at sunset. There is a selection of cafes, restaurants, and ice creameries to enjoy right by the beach and the Henley Beach Jetty. You can also go for a dip in the ocean before or after your meal!

The beach is about a 20-minute drive from the city or about half an hour via bus, making it easy to access.
