The Northern Territory is a massive area with lots of stunning scenery to admire. A favourite route for many travellers is the trip between Alice Springs and Darwin. Not only are the two destinations located on opposite ends of the Northern Territory, but the travel time is about a 15-hour drive. Because of this, we recommend breaking the drive into smaller bits and enjoying a three-day trip!

What to see

Devils Marbles (Karlu Karlu)

The Devils Marbles are located on a conservation reserve just north of Alice Springs. This fascinating landmark is made of large boulders that are precariously balanced. You won’t want to miss this iconic landmark.

Mataranka Hot Springs

The Mataranka Hot Springs are made up of natural thermal pools. Each pristine pool contains fresh spring water from nearby basins. The average temperature of the pools is typically around 34 degrees Celsius, which is perfect for relaxing or alleviating any aches and pains.

Nitmiluk National Park

Nitmiluk National Park is just a short drive from the town of Katherine. Here, you can admire the Nitmiluk Gorge and view Aboriginal artwork from over 10,000 years ago.

Daly Waters Pub

This is the go-to pub for anybody travelling across the Outback. The tradition whilst visiting the pub is to leave something behind. The pub is decorated from floor to ceiling with items such as train tickets, flags, hats, and much more. Aside from the quirkiness, the pub also offers delicious food and live music.

Litchfield National Park

Located southwest of Darwin, Litchfield National Park is another must-visit. The national park is home to heaps of waterfalls and swimming holes. Just be sure to check for croc warnings! You can also view the magnetic termite mounds, which are another fascinating geological wonder.
