So, you are making your way to the Top End in Darwin to enjoy the tropical climate, beaches, and some breathtaking national parks that are a drive away.

The best way to get around Darwin is having a car. There are buses available, but they can be quite limited.

If you have a free day in between your travels, you can see some of the best parts of Darwin, including jumping in the Cage of Death with a croc!

Breakfast

There is no other way to start your day than enjoying a delicious breakfast. A popular dining spot to eat at is the Fannie Bay Coolspot with an amazing breakfast menu. They also offer lunch, dinner, and dessert!

Another option is grabbing some breakfast at Parap Markets on a Saturday or Nightcliff Markets on a Sunday.

See a couple of crocs

Darwin is known for its large population of crocodiles. The best places to see them are either at Crocosaurus Cove or Crocodylus Park.

Crocosaurus Cove gives you the thrill of the Cage of Death where you step inside a glass cage that gets lowered into water with a large croc. If that’s too much for you, you can just see the crocs without getting into the water! There are other reptiles here including snakes and lizards that you may get the chance to hold.

Crocodylus Park on the other hand is like a zoo, but has more crocs than any other animal! See thousands of crocodiles from tiny babies to large 7-metre saltwater crocs! The park also has big cats, birds, monkeys, and many more.

Check out Darwin’s museums

Darwin has a couple of museums to learn more about the history of the city.

You can learn about Aboriginal history and art and other Darwin historic moments at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. There is also a nice cafe to grab some lunch from that overlooks the bay.

If you’re into learning about the military history of Darwin, there are a few museums for that! From the Darwin Museum Underground WWII Oil Tunnels to the Darwin Aviation Museum, and the Darwin Military Museum. All are fascinating in their own right and are worth to see.

Dinner with a view

Head down to Cullen Bay and have a delicious dinner with a view of the water during sunset. Recommended eateries here are Seafood on Cullen, Lola’s Pergola Darwin, or Yots Greek Taverna.

Or you can set off on a sunset cruise by the waterfront. Enjoy a dinner or a drink on the cruise as you watch the day come to an end with a beautiful sunset over the water.

Keep the night going

After your dinner, you may want to keep the night rolling. For something more relaxing during the dry season, you can watch a movie outdoors with sea views at the Deckchair Cinema.

Or hit the nightclubs down Mitchell Street in the city and go into Discovery, Monsoons, and Throb.

While in the Northern Territory, make sure you have extra days to do some trips out to Litchfield National Park and Kakadu National Park.
