The Charm of Byron Bay
Byron Bay is a melting pot of surf culture and wellness.
Ever wondered why so many people flock to Byron Bay? Each year, thousands of tourists flock to Byron Bay to experience its coastal, surfy charm. Byron Bay is one of the most famous beaches in Australia, and it’s certainly risen in popularity over the decade. So what’s all the fuss about?
Byron has a hippie-infused past and a colourful history
The building blocks of its culture are probably thanks to the Aquarius Festival of the 60s (or perhaps because Crocodile Dundee star Paul Hogan bought the pub here!) Byron Bay is known as a wellness haven, visited by yogis and hippies alike. Because of its hippie charm and surf culture, Byron has become quite a hotspot for tourists looking for a peaceful wellness vacation.

Our tips for visiting Byron:
- It can get busy, so going in the school holidays might mean that it’s a little quieter and you will have the town to yourself a little bit more!
- Book ahead – restaurants can get fully booked!
- Doing any outdoor water sports? Water sports like windsurfing, surfing or paragliding tend to be quite busy and they are solely weather dependent – so make sure you have a Plan B. You can never predict the weather!
