And, guess what? You can experience all of this between Darwin and Alice Springs! Yes, the long stretch of land between these two fascinating towns is full of the mesmerising wonder that you can only really find in the Northern Territory, with the likes of the Litchfield National Park, Nitmiluk National Park, Mataranka Hot Springs and more all there to inspire your senses…

Be sure to check out these fantastic spots in between Darwin and Alice Springs:

Litchfield National Park

As far as natural wonderlands go, Litchfield is up there with the most astounding. This incredible expanse comprises giant cascades, gorgeous swimming holes, bizarre sites and fascinating far-flung spots, making it up there with its much larger neighbour Kakadu when it comes to awe and wonder.

Litchfield is probably most famous for its swimming spots, with the likes of the sublime Florence Falls and the joyous Buley Rockhole alone making this spectacular park worth visiting.

But there’s more, as Litchfield is also home to two of Australia’s most fascinating natural occurrences: The Lost City and the ever-strange termite mounds.

The Lost City is a massive series of hundreds of aeons-old stone structures that jump out of the ground like mini skyscrapers, whilst the termite mounds are a series of, well, you guessed it: giant termite mounds.

Both sites are absolutely fantastic, just don’t go leaning on the termite mounds – they are made from all kinds of natural matter.

Mataranka Hot Springs

Situated in the effervescent Elsey National Park, the Mataranka Hot Springs are easily one of the world’s most gorgeous natural pools. Flanked by stunning tropical palms and consisting of impossibly-illuminated waters, the hot springs – alongside the Bitter Springs – are not only revered for being a great place for a dip, but also for their potential healing properties, making it a pretty awesome place to spend an NT afternoon…

Check out Karlu Karlu

Karlu Karlu, or the “Devil’s Marbles”, are a series of giant boulders jumping out of the desert below. The boulders seem to be impossibly perched atop one another, making them one of the most fascinating and unique sites in all of Oz!
