Melbourne to Cairns Itinerary

Day 1 - Melbourne

Arrive in Melbourne at any time this day and check into your accommodation, the rest of the day is free to explore!

Day 2 - Melbourne

Today is a free day to explore Melbourne as you please!

Day 3 - The Great Ocean Road (Lunch)

Depart Melbourne around 7:00am and enter the Great Ocean Road arriving at a beautiful coastal town for Coffee, Cookies and Tea. Visit Loch Ard Gorge and learn the tale of the famous shipwreck, descend the Gibson Steps and have an epic view of the Apostles from sea level on the beach!

Day 4 – Melbourne to Sydney

Today you have a full day in Melbourne before hopping on an overnight bus to Sydney.

Day 5 – Sydney

Arrive in Sydney early in the morning with the rest of the day free to explore as you please! See the Botanical Gardens, Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.

Day 6 – Sydney

Today is free to explore Sydney at your leisure, head to one of the many beaches or go for a cruise on the harbour!

Day 7 – Sydney

Today is free to explore as you please! You could maybe head to the beaches or take a day trip to the blue mountains? The choice is yours.

Day 8 – Sydney to Byron Bay

Today you have the full day to explore Sydney before hopping on an overnight bus to Byron Bay.

Day 9 – Byron Bay

Arrive in Byron Bay early in the morning, it’s time to relax!

Day 10 – Byron Bay

Enjoy Byron Bay as you please! There is the possibility to have a surf lesson, go on a kayak tour to see the dolphins or visit Nimbin (extra cost).

Day 11 – Byron Bay to Surfers Paradise

Travel to Surfers Paradise and hit the beach or head to one of the theme parks.

Day 12 – Surfers Paradise

Explore Surfers Paradise at your own leisure, go shopping or visit a theme park!

Day 13 – Surfers Paradise to Brisbane

Travel to Brisbane and spend the afternoon checking out the city!

Day 14 – Brisbane to Noosa

Travel to Noosa and hit the beach or explore

Day 15 – Noosa

Explore Noosa as you please! head to the beach, Australia Zoo or Noosa National park or the Everglades!

Day 16 – Noosa to Rainbow Beach

Travel to Rainbow Beach and check into your accommodation.

Day 17 – Fraser Island (Lunch, Dinner)

Departure for the 2 days 1 night Fraser Island:
Get picked up from your Rainbow Beach accommodation and take a ferry across to the World Heritage sand island that is Fraser Island. Today you will get to have a swim in famous Lake McKenzie, visit the historical heart of the island – Central Station and the rainforest boardwalk, see ancient King Ferns at Wanggoolba Creek, visit Pile Valley’s famous Satinay trees and trek to Basin Lake which is perched high in the dunes.

Day 18 – Fraser Island (Breakfast, Lunch) 

Today we discover the ocean highway of 75-Mile Beach and it’s famous icon of the SS Maheno Shipwreck, swim in crystal-clear Eli Creek with ocean views, visit The Pinnacles Coloured Sands where you learn about local mythology, climb Indian Head for Fraser Island’s most spectacular views, experience the natural rock pool jacuzzis at Champagne Pools plus time for an optional joy flight with Air Fraser taking off right from the beach. Take the ferry back to the mainland and be dropped at your accommodation around 6:00pm (times vary due to tides).

Day 19 - Rainbow Beach to Airlie Beach

Enjoy the day relaxing in Rainbow beach before hopping on the overnight bus to Airlie Beach.

Day 20 - Airlie Beach

Arrive in Airlie Beach in the morning with the rest of the day free to relax.

Day 21 – Whitsundays (Lunch, Dinner)

Enjoy a scenic day of beaches and snorkelling on the Whitsundays! Click the 'Whitsundays Boat Options' tab to check out the boats and their itineraries!

All Whitsundays trips in the time saver packages are on sailing boats with 22 to 24 passengers maximum on board, you can let us know if you have a preference otherwise we will put you on the boat that best lines up with the rest of your trip.

Day 22 – Whitsundays (Breakfast, Lunch)

Today is your second day on the Whitsundays! Enjoy the beaches, snorkelling and sailing before returning to Airlie Beach in the Afternoon Click the 'Whitsundays Boat Options' tab to check out the boats and their itineraries!

Day 23 - Airlie Beach to Cairns

Travel from Airlie Beach to Cairns this day

Day 24 - Great Barrier Reef (Lunch)

Enjoy a day of Snorkelling on various reef Sites on the Great Barrier Reef!

Day 25 - Cairns

Today is a free day to explore Cairns as you please.

Day 26 - Cairns

Today is the end of your journey, you can check out at anytime today and travel onward.

A: No, This is a combination of accommodation and separate tours that we organise for you. You need to choose how you travel between your destinations whether by bus or driving. You can then choose to have open dated tickets or select a starting date and we’ll organise everything and send you an itinerary!

Q: Can I change anything?

A: Of course, just call or email us and we can organise a custom package in no time and set you on your adventure.

Q: Will I meet lots of people this way?

A: Definitely, this is the most popular way of travelling and experiencing Australia’s East Coast, so no matter if you’re on tour or on a bus or in a hostel you’ll make lots of new friends.

Q: What’s the difference between Greyhound and Premier Buses?

A: Greyhound has new buses with Wi-Fi, USB plugs for charging devices and up to 3 departures per day, Premier has older buses with usually 1 departure a day.

Q: What accommodation will I be staying at? 

A: You will be staying in dorm rooms at the accommodation we book for you, we use accommodation that we know are awesome because we've been sending people there for years. If you would like to stay somewhere in particular just let us know and we will do our best to make it happen.
