You will need to obtain a dive medical if you answer 'yes' to any questions on the medical statement. A Doctor will be available on the first day of the course to perform the assessment if required.

Day One - Academic & Pool Training

* Please note – pick up times will vary so please check your time with our office. Please bring your travel voucher and/or course fees, money for your dive medical and lunch, swimwear and towel.

08:00hrs - Complimentary hotel transfer – available from Cairns City & Northern Beaches accommodation

08:30 - Check in at Pro Dive Training Centre – 116 Spence Street, Cairns

08:45 - Academic training in the classroom

13:00 - Dive medical and lunch break (lunch at own expense)

14:00 - Pool training

17:30 - Complimentary transfer returns you to your accommodation

Day Two - Academic & Pool Training

07:30hrs - Complimentary hotel transfer – available from Cairns City & Northern Beaches accommodation

08:00 - Equipment talk, free time in the pool to try different equipment

09:15 - Pool Training

12:15 - Gearing up at Pro Dive retail shop and opportunity to make any purchases with a 10% discount

13:00 - Lunch break (lunch at own expense)

14:00 - Return to Training Centre for academic training and final exam

17:45 - Complimentary transfer returns you to your accommodation or to Reef Teach (optional)

Day Three - Diving the Outer Great Barrier Reef

05:45hrs - Complimentary hotel transfer – available from Cairns City & Northern Beaches accommodation.

06:15 - Check in at Pro Dive retail shop – corner Shields & Grafton Streets.

07:00 - Depart Cairns for 3 days & 2 nights of fantastic diving/snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef. A light breakfast is served onboard.

10:30 - Your first training dive in the ocean

12:00 - Lunch is served - hearty soup with an array of fresh salads, cold meats & bread rolls.

14:30 - Your second training dive

18:00 - Dinner - the menu changes each trip however it will be wholesome, hot & of course lots of it! Then time to relax.

Day Four - Experience further fantastic diving on the Outer Great Barrier Reef

07:00hrs - Your third training dive.

08:00 - Enjoy a hearty breakfast of cereal, fresh fruit, bacon and eggs as well as toast & spreads.

10:30 - Your fourth and final training dive!

12:00 - Lunch on the second day is hot pasta with a variety of fresh salads.

14:30 - You are now a certified diver – your first pleasure dive!

18:00 - A hot dinner is served

19:30 - A guided night dive!

Day Five - Morning dives and return to Cairns

06:30hrs - Your first dive of the day.

07:30 - A hot breakfast accompanied with fresh fruit salad, cereals and toast.

09:00 - After breakfast, the vessel makes its last site of the trip, where you will do your second dive.

11:00 - Your last dive of the trip!

12:00 - A selection of freshly made sandwiches is served before the vessel heads back to Cairns

16:00 - Complimentary accommodation transfers – Cairns City & Northern Beaches.

19:30 - Join fellow passengers & crew at a local restaurant for a farewell dinner! (optional)

What else they need to know

You will need to complete and pass the Australian Standards Dive Medical A.S.4005.1. This can be completed on the first day of the course, when a Doctor will come to the Training Facility. Cost for this medical is not included in the course fees.

You will need to be able to swim 200 meters and tread water for 10 minutes

The minimum age is 12yrs and students under 18yrs of age will be required to provide signed parent or guardian consent. Children 12 - 14yrs will attain Junior Openwater Diver Certification.

Accommodation transfers are included in your course package and Pro Dive Cairns pick up from properties as far north as Palm Cove as well as Cairns City

On Completion of this course your PADI Openwater Certification is recognised world wide.

Extra Info
Extras: AU$75 Reef taxes, port departure tax and admin fees. This fee consists of a $10.50 Government Environmental Charge as well as a Port Departure Tax and administration charges. This charge is applicable to all passengers travelling out on the 3 Day 2 Night Liveaboard Dive trip and all Dive Courses combining the 3 Day trip.

Some medical conditions may prevent you from diving. Please make your way to the Retail Shop on the Corner of Grafton & Shields St the day prior to the course to complete the statement. You will be required to obtain a Dive Medical if you answer “Yes” to any of the questions on the medical statement.

Course Requirements
Ability to swim - 200m (or 300m with mask, fins and snorkel) and tread water (float) for 10 minutes Minimum age 12 years (no maximum age) Dive medical – which must be in accordance with Australian Standard AS4005-1 (This can be arranged by Pro Dive on day 1 of course - a fee of $60.50 per person is payable direct to the doctor. A history of asthma, diabetes & pregnancy may exclude you from scuba diving)
