But deciding on whether to go to Fraser Island or the Whitsundays should really come down to how you plan on spending your vacation. Are you looking for a little more fun and adventure (Fraser Island)? Or, are you looking to chill super hard on some of the world’s most sublime beaches (the Whitsundays)?

Let’s take a look at the two island paradises so you can decide on what attracts your interest more:

Fraser Island

Fraser Island has a little more pep in its step than the uber dreamy Whitsundays, with plenty of fun and adventure to keep you occupied for at least a week!

Fraser Island is a 4WDer’s paradise, with the ever-majestic 75 Mile Beach providing Australia’s very best beachfront driving. Not only this, but you can get out and explore some of the stunning shoreline which includes the near-90 year old Maheno Shipwreck, still languishing away on the beach…

Next, Fraser Island is home to some of Queensland’s most epic hiking adventures, with some of the treks taking up to a week to complete! They will take you through everything from ancient rainforests, across expansive island views and to some of the island’s other top locations like the ever-refreshing Lake McKenzie (the most suitable spot for swimming on the whole island!).

Finally, Fraser Island is famous for its wildlife, being home to one of Australia’s most prominent dingo populations. You can go on dingo-spotting adventures as well as catch glimpses of some of the world’s most enchanting birdlife!

The Whitsundays

The Whitsundays are Australia’s beach-chilling dream location, especially with the likes of Whitehaven Beach (widely regarded as Australia’s best) providing optimal places to relax and let it all go by.

But this isn’t to say the Whitsundays don’t have any adventure of their own. The Whitsundays are, after all, within the Great Barrier Reef, so you can guarantee there are some pretty impressive diving and snorkelling experiences that await you in its turquoise seas.

Not only this, but the Whitsundays plays host to one of Australia’s greatest adventures: kayak island hopping. You and your mates (experience necessary) can traverse the island and its waters via kayak, stopping to camp at some of the Whitsundays’ most tranquil sites along the way.

So, as you can see, it’s hard to make a call on which is better – it all comes down to what you want to experience on your sunny Queensland vacay…
